At Frontrunner Moving Company, our goal is to provide our customers with the best possible moving experience, and that includes providing accurate moving estimates. Several factors affect the cost of your move, such as the amount of furniture and boxes we are moving, and the distance to your new home or business. However, there a few additional variables that can increase your moving expenses.
Packing & Crating Services
Packing is the most time-consuming and frustrating part of a move, which is why many of our customers ask us to do the packing for them. If you’re looking to save time and stress, it’s a smart decision. We pack your home quickly, guarantee that fragile items are packed safely, and boxes are clearly labeled and organized. Just keep in mind that you’ll pay more for packing services, especially specialty items that require crating, like artwork or a grandfather clock.
Storage Fees
While not everyone will encounter storage fees, sometimes they simply can’t be avoided. If you need to move out of your home before your new home is ready, or you’re unable to coordinate your move-out and move-in dates, and need to store your items temporarily, your moving estimate will include additional storage fees.
Stairs & Long-Carry Fees
The cost of moving a three-story home is higher than moving a ranch home simply because of the stairs. If you have very long stairs or multiple sets of stairs that the movers have to carry your belongings up or down, it will impact the cost of your move. Likewise, if your furniture won’t fit through a standard doorway, you might be assessed a rigging or hoisting fee, and if the distance from your home’s entrance to the moving truck is greater than 50 feet, some movers charge a long-carry fee.
Limited Access
If your existing home or new address is not accessible by moving truck, it can increase the cost of your move. For instance, if your residence is located down a narrow driveway or on the other side of a bridge with a weight or height limit, our professional movers will need to find another way to transport your belongings. Instead of a single moving truck and crew, we may need to use several smaller moving vans or be forced to make multiple trips.
Time of Year
Certain times of the year are more popular for relocating, and the cost of moving services is higher during these peak times. The most expensive time of year to move in Glens Falls, Queensbury and Saratoga is during the summer months, when movers are the busiest. It’s also best to avoid national holidays, and the first or last day of the month, when most rental agreements expire, as these dates can also incur a premium.

How to Save Money on Moving Costs
If you’re looking to lower your moving costs, plan to pack some or all of your belongings yourself, and dissemble beds and large furniture items. Try to coordinate your move-out and move-in dates to avoid storage fees, and consider a mid-week or fall or winter move to get the cheapest rates. It’s also important to work with reputable movers.
